Turkey.......

Ok, fellas. Went back out last night for about an hour, just see what he turkey were doing. Seems they are getting started up pretty early this year. It has been unseasonably warm for the past 2 weeks. Except Easter when it snowed like a mother and never got above 10 degrees. Other than that it has been up in the 50's and even 60's. The birds were gobblin like crazy last night. Man, it got me pumped up.

Now, for you other turkey hunters, what broadhead do you use??? I have been using NAP Gobbler Getters for the past few years. I was thinking about trying the new turkey broadhead by ABC this year. They look pretty nasty. I have also used some Aftershocks on em and they worked well. SO, what will ya'll be carrying this year???

I use my 85 grain Slick Tricks for everything. I don't see the purpose of the big turkey broadheads. Why put a big head on to hit a small bird, but the big broadhead is not as accurate as a small one. I doesn't make sense to me, but maybe I am looking at it all wrong.

No you not. I agree with you. I have used Wacems and NAP Crossfires on em also and they worked well. Only reason I'm usind the Gobbler Getters is they have a blunt tip, and it knocks the hell out of em. The are just a Spitfire Broadhead with a rounded tip.

I've kinda wondered myself--never shot one so I don;t know how much of an issue them "flying away" is, but the bullhead, I saw a couple pics and it looked like you took a giant ice-cream scoop and cut about 1/4 of the bird out from the middle.....can't be much meat that's not all bloosdhot to hell left after that......

I think I'd do bullheads for head-shots or regular heads for body and make sure I took a solid shot rather than turning the f'ing bird inside out like that.......

I have wanted to try the guilitines(SP), would be cool to take a head clean off.

I have close to three weeks before I can go after them here. I love flinging arrows at them and I'll be using my trusty old 85 gr Thunderheads.

I'll probably use my 100 grain THs... but I probably won't get a shot at one :p Just looking forward to getting my boy out in the woods, and seeing some wildlife.

when's good in the midwest for chasing them? I see there's some excess tags going on sale but mostly for middle may or later......

Mark, Some hunts here are starting in the next week or so. My hunt runs from May 5 through the end of the month. A lot of guys like early, but on the other hand some guys say if you hunt late, you're dealing with Toms cruising for the hens that haven't been bred, whereas early, the Toms are potentially "henned" up....

is there a per day thing?
do you need a tag for each?

I have never turkey hunted, so, dont know.

I've used the gobbler guillatines (SP) in past but I'd like to check out the new Magnus Bullhead.
