It wasn't a pen. It was a cage. But I did let him out before I shot him....you know, fair chase and all.

why give the deer a sense of freedom in a pen, when you can just crush him in a cage,,,,besides, its easier to track them down

Excellent point Juan. You're not really destroying its spirit if you never let him develop one to begin with.
That's why Marcus hunts in a cage, the deer he has bottled up inside that fence are so miserable and cramped they actually WANT to get shot.

yep, and plus on hte cage, you can feed them by hand & not need a feeder

BTW the cage makes it so that it is ethical to use 72" arrow with a slick trick

did you at least untie the poor critter first, i mean, leaving the gate open is one thing, but if it's still tied to a tree or the cage, then that's a little different.
