do you have an educated opinion on 7 mm or 300? ballistics seem awfully similar best I can tell.

If you want a .300 check out the Weatherby cartridge. The case on a .300 Weatherby is much bigger thatn a .300 Winchester, therefore it packs more punch. Better velocity and alot more energy. Recoil is ALOT heavier in the .300 Weatherby but if recoil doesn't bother you you'll be ok. If you want to go with the Winchester, either the 7mm or .300 would be good choices. Both have alot of bullet weight options in factory ammo and both have basically about the same ballistics. I have a Remington 700 chambered in 7mm and I like it alot. Great shooting gun.

Check out the Weatherby Vanguard rifles. You can get them for under $1000. They are GREAT rifles and IMHO you can't beat the Weatherby cartridges in ballistics over Remington or Winchester. Go compare some ballistics and see what you think.

I don't do long shooting but would like a rifle that I could. Therefore I was leaning to the 7mm or 300 win as it would sit in the safe maybe for years. Probably going plastic and ss too to have a lighter gun for carrying and all weather issues.

just my thoughts
